In this open petition to the DRC Government local civil society in North Kivu asks a number of questions to its leaders; they ask for more transparency and information on the terms of the allocation of the oil concession Block V in a World Heritage Site. They share many local concerns about the legal framework of such an enterprise and the non-respect of national and international laws. The impacts on the environment and park as well as the negative effects of oil exploration on the livelihoods of more than 3.5 million people who depend on the fishery resources of lake Edward.
