The photo shows Mrs Opio of Kyapaloni village, Buseruka subcounty in Hoima district-Uganda. She is standing near her home. She is one of the oil refinery affected people. Her family opted for resettlement over compensation. She is uncertain about her future and that of her children.Ever since most of her neighbours were compensated and many left the village, she and her family have had to live in an abandoned place, without access to basic amenities like schools and health centres. Besides, the schools are some of the affected amenities which government is going to demolish. Worse still, government has not told them when and where they are going. Her family also does not have enough food, since government stopped them from growing perennial crops like millet and do other long term projects. As a woman, she is expected to feed her family no matter what. Photo: Christopher Opio
